There are times when a person gets cravings all of a sudden and has to jump out of bed to make something sweet. If this is what happened to you then sit tight because I am going to tell you an easy simple chocolate cake recipe that will blow your mind.

If you are a chocolate lover then you will definitely enjoy eating this mouthwatering cake with chocolate fillings.

Chocolate cake with mousse fillings


  • For chocolate cake

    • ½ cup sugar
    • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • Pinch of salt
    • 2 eggs
    • ½ cup milk
    • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • ½ cup boiling water

  • For chocolate mousse filling

    • ½ cup hot water
    • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
    • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
    • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
    • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

  • For chocolate frosting

    • 3 tablespoons milk
    • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
    • ½ cup butter
    • 2 cups confectioners' sugar

  1. Heat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Take a large bowl and mix together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla.
  4. Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.
  5. Stir boiling water.
  6. Pour the batter into cake pan.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Once the cake is cooled down cut it into 9 inches so you have four thin cake pieces.
  9. Place the first cake layer on the serving plate and spread the chocolate mousse.
  10. Keep repeating the above step until all four pieces are covered with chocolate mousse.
  11. Spread the remaining mousse around and on top of the cake.
  12. Place the cake in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  13. Take the cake out of the fridge.
  14. Spread the chocolate frosting over the outside of the cake.


  • For chocolate mousse filling

  1. Take a bowl and dissolve cocoa powder in hot water.
  2. Melt the chocolate chips until smooth.
  3. Add cocoa powder mixture to the melted chocolate chips and stir it well.
  4. Let it cool down.
  5. Take a bowl and beat cream with sugar. Combine it well with the mixture and then refrigerate it.
  • For chocolate frosting

  1. Take a medium saucepan and add milk, cocoa, and butter.
  2. Let it boil then remove from heat.
  3. Add powdered sugar,
  4. Beat the mixture well.
  5. Let it cool down.
  6. Pour it over the cake slowly and then spread it.
